Technology in the Office - Page 2

Electric Handpieces

Advantages

One of patients' biggest fears in the dental office is the sound of the high pitched air driven drills. The sound of the electric drill is quieter and almost completely unnoticeable among the other sounds in the treatment room.

Magnification Loupes

Increases the size of the tooth the dentist is working on from 2X to 5X the size.

Better ergonomics. The dentist can sit back, away from the patient's mouth, and still see with incredible clarity.

It's just common sense. - If you can see better, You'll work better. A dentist can achieve a degree of perfection that is impossible with the naked eye.

DIAGNOdent Laser

Measures fluorescence within a tooth giving the dentist a reading of the likelihood of the tooth having a cavity..

Advantages

The dentist can keep a running score on individual teeth making charting the progression of a cavity more objective.

Proven to be more accurate than the trusty explorer

It is less invasive for the patient than having an explorer stuck in every pit and groove during an exam

It eliminates the practice of doing a filling on every tooth just because it may be "suspected" that there could be a cavity hiding from view.

Digital (Paperless) Office

(The computer monitor behind the patient)

Patient information can be sent via e-mail to specialists' offices increasing efficiency and communication between doctors

Records can be saved and stored in multiple places preventing loss of patient information

Before and after imaging software is available to show patients what they will look like with a new smile before starting a procedure.

CEREC 3D

CEREC offers patients a single visit treatment for crowns. The resulting restoration is tooth colored, very long lasting and conservative towards tooth structure. What is more - no uncomfortable impressions are necessary. In Colleen and my opinion, the CEREC 3D can not yet match the artistic abilities of a master ceramist when creating lifelike cosmetic crowns and veneers for the front of a patient's mouth and temporary crowns and veneers are often a necessary trial period for the dentist and patient. CEREC 3D by Sirona is definitely where the future of dentistry is headed. We do not have a CEREC, because our primary focus is on smiles and the CEREC is in no way meant for front teeth.
